Set the Price for Your Journal – Based on Page Count, Size, Etc.

Amazon provides us with a Price Setting calculator in the form of an Excel spreadsheet.

Here’s where you go to access the calculator and find out more about book pricing.

Note – This calculator on Amazon.com does not take the book’s dimensions into account so the estimate is close but not exact. You’ll find out the exact amount when you set up your book for publication.

Here’s another calculator, available on LightningSource.com – that does allow you to enter the book’s dimensions. The weight of the paper is not the same weight as the weight of the paper on Amazon, however between the two calculators you’ll get a close idea as to the compensation you’ll receive.

  • For expanded distribution, the wholesale discount should be listed as 55%.
  • (This will get you closest to Amazon’s 60% expanded distribution compensation.)
  • On Amazon you earn 60% on books sold through Amazon and 40% for books sold through expanded distribution. This opens up sales through bookstores and book sellers worldwide.)

The reason you can only get an estimate before you publish your book is, that Amazon does not allow you to price the book until you’ve published it. While that seems a bit odd, that is the current situation.

Here’s to selling lots of books!
