Welcome Robin. Thank you for taking the time to share about your experience of creating a website on the Canva platform. Here’s a bit about Robin:
With a passion for design, creativity, and helping businesses thrive, I started this PLR platform to offer high-quality, customizable content that can be easily tailored to fit any brand or niche. My goal is to provide digital entrepreneurs, marketers, and creators with the tools they need to save time and boost their business growth, all while maintaining a polished, professional aesthetic.
Q: Robin, tell us how you decided to use Canva to build and host your website on?
A: Canva for me is an amazing toolset. I don’t think I will ever be able to fully explore all of it! The latest feature I came across was Canva’s ability to create your own website. For someone familiar with web development, and using Canva as a design tool, it certainly piqued my interest. And as someone currently on a budget, it has proven to be a very economical way to offer digital products, and build an audience online.
Q: How was the process of building a Canva website?
A: The process is super simple. Have you ever taped Christmas cards together to hang on the wall, like a vertical collage? Well, Canva websites are exactly the same! Each ‘section’ on your site is like a postcard, a small isolated section of design. You drag and drop elements from the sidebar, the same as you always do in Canva. The ‘web-page’ is simply one section presented after the next, as a user scrolls down your page.
Utilizing Canva templates as a starting point, it was really easy to get my first draft up and running in a matter of hours. And the great thing is, Canva offers free hosting*, as well as the ability to connect your own custom domain. The hardest part was deciding on what colours to use!
- Canva free users can have up-to five sites on the free domain. They also have a special URL. See Canva help files for more information.
Q: What tips can you share with those wanting to create a Canva website?
A: My background is software engineering. One of the techniques we would use to communicate software to potential end-users was called ‘wire-framing’. This is simply a design drawn on paper using boxes, dashes, arrows, and squiggles (in place of actual text). It is a great way to PLAN out your site before you start designing. My advice is to plan out how you want your site to look like on paper first. List out all the sections you want to include, Title, Subtitle, Hero image, sales pitch, product showcase, testimonials, etc. My last tip is to work in small sections. Do a bit, see if you like it and then move on. How do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed by thinking you have to do everything in one go!
Q: Any words of caution?
A: Canva is massive! You do not have to learn everything before you get started. Take each element of your project one step at a time. Do not get distracted with fancy features. Remember the abbreviation MVP. Minimum Viable Product. From my software days, this meant adding just enough functionality, to get the thing to work. Then it went into testing, and from there design changes can be made.
Q: Canva websites don’t allow for embedding forms, aside from jot forms. How did you integrate an opt-in form to your site?
A: That is correct. However there is a way to do it. You need to click on APPS on the left hand sidebar, from there search for EMBED. You will see a tool that supports embedding a form within your page. The form itself, can be a simple google form, like i used in my own Canva hosted site.
Let’s talk about your specific website now.
Q: What is the focus of your website?
A: My website is focused on offering High-Quality Digital products designed to help people grow their business and assist their clients. My main product range focuses on offering PLR (Private Label Rights) products, such as planner, workbooks, printables and more.
Q: What types of products will you be selling?
