About Jan: I’ve been in business for over 10 years, working from my “office” above the kitchen at my home in Scotland where I live with my husband, youngest son, and cockapoo Alfie. I love the freedom of working my own hours and being able to walk Alfie in the hills by my house in the middle of the day.
What do you want people to know about the products or product line you offer?
I create journals and planners for commercial use so that business owners can give away or sell them as their own. As well as a beautifully decorated ready-made product, buyers receive the source files and blank templates so that they can make something unique if they wish. Our journals and planners usually have several cover and background options to mix and match so that even if the original designs are used, buyers can create a multitude of different planners and journals
What do you love about your products and how can “content creators” benefit from them?
I truly love every design that goes out the door and I hope buyer will love them, too. Using our journals and planners means that you can have a beautiful opt-in to offer to potential subscribers, or a product to sell in your store, without having to do a whole lot of work yourself or bear the cost of employing a writer or designer.
How did you get started in your business and what do you love about it?
I love the flexibility and variety a home business offers. I left my job in the corporate world after training in my spare time as a life coach and set up a coaching business, but then I started writing, blogging, and creating websites to promote my services, and enjoyed that so much I carried on.
Over the years, I’ve earned money as a coach, author of fiction and non-fiction, affiliate marketer and web designer. One thing leads to another. It was only when I began creating covers for books that I got the graphic design bug and took a diploma course at the local art college and that led to me creating journals and planners.
Please share a tip for people wanting to create and sell products online.
It all starts with one product. Just make one and put it up for sale (on Etsy if you don’t have your own store.) And then promote it. Tell people about it. Your product doesn’t have to be perfect. No product is. But you’ll get better every product you make.
What do you wish you knew when you first got started in your business?
I wish I hadn’t gone so long trying to do everything on my own. It got me coaching and writing and designing websites and book covers, for sure. But it was only when I started getting to know others online that I became a lot more successful. It’s only in the past year that I’ve been able to pay for help, but that has made a huge difference. I now have a full-time VA who came to help me get organized but she also ended up getting the design bug and so we collaborate on designs. And I pay for coaching, too, so things have come full circle with that from where I started in business.
