Create Once, Share Twice: A Simple Way to Dual-Purpose Your Content

Lately I’ve been thinking about ways we can more effectively create and share content. We all have so much to share and we are all so busy. That’s why I’m excited to share today’s message with you.

In fact, you can access it in two ways. Continue on to read this article and/or scroll to the bottom of the page for an audio version!

It’s about creating content in one format and easily transforming it into two types of content. By doing this, you multiply your efforts and you make your content more accessible to readers with different learning styles.

If you’ve ever felt stretched thin trying to keep up with content creation, you’re not alone. The good news is… you don’t have to create separate content for every platform. One of the simplest and most effective strategies you can use is dual-purposing your content—creating it once and sharing it in more than one format.

Here are two easy ways to approach this.

The first option is to start with writing. You might jot down your ideas in bullet points, outline a short article, or write a full blog post. Once your thoughts are on the page, you can read them aloud and make an audio recording of yourself.

That single piece of writing instantly becomes both written content and an audio message—perfect for people who prefer to listen rather than read.

The second option flips the process. Instead of writing first, you can simply turn on a recorder or app on your phone and speak your ideas out loud. This works especially well if you think best when you talk. You can share a story, explain a concept, or offer a tip in a few minutes of relaxed conversation.

Once recorded, your audio can be transcribed and lightly edited to become a blog post, article, or newsletter feature. Both approaches provide you and your audience with great content.

Another benefit of dual-purposing is that it allows your audience to engage with your message in the way that works best for them. Some people love reading. Others prefer listening while they walk, craft, or commute. When you offer both options, you increase accessibility and connection.

This strategy is also a wonderful fit for creating audio postcards. Audio postcards are short, intentional audio messages paired with a simple visual. They’re personal, approachable, and easy to create—and dual-purposing makes them even easier.

You can begin with text by writing a short message, reflection, or tip, then reading it aloud and recording it for your audio postcard. Or, you can start by speaking your message into a recorder, pair that audio with a postcard image to create your audio postcard,

…then turn the transcript into a blog post or content for your email newsletter. Either way, you’re creating meaningful content of interest to you and your audience.

Your ideas matter. Your voice matters. Give it a go and notice whether you prefer to write and then read your ideas aloud or if you prefer to speak your ideas aloud first

I’d love to hear what you create.
